A genus of shrub belonging to the birch family. The species is found wild throughout Europe, Asia Minor to the Caucasus. In Poland, common throughout the country. A shrub with smooth, gray bark, reaches a height of up to 5 meters, forming a branched crown. The fruit of the bush are brown nuts surrounded by a hard shell. They are colloquially called hazelnuts, which are used to obtain an oil with a slightly nutty smell.
